Digby Duncan
Digby Duncan was born in Albury NSW. As a young adult she moved to Sydney working as a public accountant, a documentary filmmaker and film producer for many years before returning to photography.
Her first solo exhibitions, Sea Script and Lingua Marina, Gallery East 2003 and 2004, captured the textures and calligraphy-like patterns formed by seaweed and small mollusks.
During an artist-in-residence program in Beijing, Duncan photographed the night street life of Feijiacun, a small village slated for demolition. Her After Dark exhibition of these impressionistic moody works was shown at Syndicate at Danks 2011 and in group exhibitions at Damien Minton Gallery 2013 and 4A Gallery 2012.
The highly cinematic interior images in her recent Outside In series have been shown in ARTHERE group shows October Unseen (10X8 Gallery 2014) and Coterie (Depot Gallery at Danks 2016) and at Spot 81 Gallery 2014. They also appear in the publication Photo Compendium Australia 11.
Duncan’s documentary film and photographs of the 1978 Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras and surrounding events have been widely shown in Australia and overseas and were included in 40 Years of Queer Art: Rebellion and Subversion, Comber St Studios 2018.
Digby was a finalist in the Muswellbrook 2014 and Mosman 2009 photographic competitions. Her work is held in private collections in Australia, USA, UK, and Italy and in the University of Wollongong Art Collection.
